The MSD 7AL-2 Ignition set the high standards that other racing ignitions still try to reach. Like the MSD 6 Series Ignitions, the MSD 7AL-2 is a capacitive discharge design, meaning it has a large capacitor that stores high voltage and discharges all of its energy into the coil. This design produces extremely hot sparks and a quick recovery time for the coil. The MSD 7AL-2 uses its multiple spark discharge circuitry to keep the engine clean at low rpm for better throttle response, off corner performance, smooth idle and more consistent launches. This spark series lasts for 20 degrees of crankshaft rotation through 3,000 rpm. This long duration combined with powerful, capacitive discharge sparks ensures ignition of the hard-to-ignite fuel mixtures of a racing engine. The built-in Soft Touch Rev Control feature of the MSD 7AL-2 will protect your engine from overrev damage in the event of a missed shift or driveline failure. Adjustments are easily made with plug-in modules. At your selected rpm, the Soft Touch begins dropping the spark to some of the cylinders and on the next cycle these same cylinders are fired to prevent fuel from loading up in the cylinder. The result is a smooth and accurate limiting action without backfires or roughness. the MSD can be triggered from points, magnetic pickups, crank triggers and electronic amplifiers.
